Look to the sky for inspiration
It's a bird...it's a plane...it's the biomimicry of flight! In Season 2, Nature Masterminds: Take Flight, brings back our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) based learning, but this time our flying friends are the stars.
Inspired by a young explorer named Caroline, our modules take K-8 learners on a journey to uncover how nature’s ability to fly continues to propel human innovation. At the core of the curriculum is learning biomimicry principles and lessons. The study of biomimicry looks to living things found in nature to 'mimic' solutions to real-life human challenges based on how nature functions, adapts, survives and thrives.
In this curriculum, you will study birds, insects and other flying animals and learn how they inspired inventions such as airplanes, drones, winged flight suits, cell phone parts and so much more. You will look at birds inside and out to understand how these creatures are specially designed to be amazing aviators.

Nature Masterminds learn to ask “What Would Nature Do?” and "What Can I Learn From Nature?" Equipped with the knowledge of how to think like a Nature Mastermind, our own backyards can provide boundless examples of living solutions, which makes this program accessible and customizable to students wherever they live. Our curriculum, camps and experiences can be used as individual modules or build upon each other to create a broader offering. You can also mix-and-match modules with the original Nature Masterminds: Learn from Nature program. Each Nature Masterminds module provides a fun and meaningful way to bring together STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) and future-focused learning for grades K-8 grades.
The Caroline Kramer Faust Foundation is proud to once again partner with the Great Lakes Science Center to bring our latest biomimicry-based Nature Masterminds: Take Flight summer camp to Northeast Ohio young explorers in grades Kindergarten-6.
